How It Works
Get your export
Use ChatGPT’s data export in account settings. Keep the original ZIP or conversations.json as a backup.
Try a sample or choose a file
Try sample chats first. Your browser reads and converts the conversation data without uploading that content to our server.
Download Markdown
Select conversations and download Markdown, a ZIP of Markdown files, JSON or TXT.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my conversation content uploaded?
The converter reads files and creates downloads in your browser. It does not upload conversation text or file contents. Basic tool events may be collected separately; see the privacy policy.
What can I import?
ChatGPT ZIP archives and conversations.json, supported Claude JSON exports, and Markdown or plain text files. Try a sample before importing your own archive.
Can I use the result in Obsidian?
The Markdown files can be opened in a Markdown editor or copied into your vault. Porter does not synchronize your vault or provide an Obsidian plugin.
Are there file limits?
ZIP input is limited to 250 MB, with safety limits on decompressed content. Large archives also depend on available browser memory. You can extract conversations.json yourself and select it directly.
